Challenges of Concrete Restoration and Repair on Seaside Locations

Just imagine repairing a concrete building. You assess the damage and weak points, determine where to patch and where to refill the holes, pour the concrete, wait for it to set, make sure it’s properly treated and coated, and then stand back and admire your hard work. It’s a lot of hard work that most people wouldn’t want to do.

Now imagine doing it by the sea.

With the tide rising up and down, the salt water blasting your workers and the structures, the increased rainfall making everything continually wet, and a higher rate of erosion and corrosion from the elements, it’s an even greater challenge than on dry land.

People whose homes, condominiums and businesses are by the water, such as in Vancouver, the Maritimes, Florida, and California, like in almost any major city, know how much damage water can do. The corrosion that chloride-saturated water brings to concrete is massive and requires almost constant upkeep and maintenance. Any good concrete restoration and repair company must know how to deal with the challenge of water, salt or fresh.

Whether its concrete restoration or concrete repair, the company hired to handle this job must have experience working both above and below water. They must understand the effect the water will have on the structure and on the concrete. It’s not like just patching a hole in a concrete slab in a building.

Think of the number of different structures that one can find by the water: docks, dams, wharfs, bridges, and many other things that are unlike anything found on land. They are also covered with barnacles or other marine life, and have had to deal with large amounts of salt eating away at the concrete. Working around waterways also requires special precautions to protect the environment.

That’s why Vector Construction and Vector Corrosion Technologies has spent so much time training their employees to handle all concrete restoration and repair in a marine environment. That experience will ensure that your construction needs will be taken care in the best possible way.
